Professor Xie was born in Songzi, Hubei Province in October, 1963. He is a member of China Democratic National Construction Association, a Deputy Director of the joint research center for hydrology and water resources established by Wuhan University and the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, a Deputy Director of the Working Committee of the Joint Research Center for Chinese Arid Land, a Deputy Director of Professional Committee of Hydrological and Sediment of China Society for Hydropower engineering, and a visiting researcher of Research Center of Climate Change-MWR. Also, He is a member of the Third Council of the Hubei Provincial (People's Government) Counseling Promotion Association, a representative of the Ninth National Congress of China Democratic National Construction Association, and a member of the Central Population Resources and Environment Committee of China Democratic National Construction Association. His research interest mainly includes the inheritance and variability codes of hydrological genes and their evolution laws, the effects of cascade hydropower development on hydrology and water resources, the approaches for nonstationary and dependent floods and droughts frequency analysis, and the methods for water resources assessment under changing environment. Meanwhile, He focuses on model researches, i.e., a hydrological variability diagnostic system, and a watershed hydrological model considering both climate change and land cover change. Besides, he is doing research on the assessment and prediction of water eutrophication, as well as flood forecasting and controlling system for reservoirs and rivers. In terms of research outcomes, He has published more than 100 papers in domestic and foreign journals, as well as 4 monographs in Science Press.
