Professor. Wuhan University. 1991.12~pre.

Visiting Scholar. Michigan State University, USA. 1992~1993

PhD degree in Wuhan Uni. of Hydr.& Elec. Eng.

Research Interests

Hydraulic transient and control of hydropower stations;

Safe and stable operations of pumped-storage stations;

Design of water conveyance system in hydropower stations;

CFD simulation of complex flows in hydropower stations;

Transient experiments in model hydropower stations (including pumped-storage stations);

Research Works

In the past few years, Prof. Yang took on and directed roughly 30 research projects sponsored by government or enterprises, which are closely related to major hydropower projects in China, including the Key Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, ‘Hydraulic transients based on pump-turbine characteristic surface’ in 2010.

Prof. Yang proposed a simulation method for complex pipe network transient consisting short pipe and free-surface pressurized flow, generalized method of characteristics; developed the transient simulation software for hydropower stations; established the design principles for slope-ceiling tailrace tunnels and surge tanks. These research achievements were  applied in more than 30 major hydropower projects including pumped-storage stations; A series of experimental system for hydraulic-mechanical-electrical coupled transients in hydropower station were established, and also the first model pumped- storage station worldwide. These model stations provide experimental proofs for hydropower constructions, transient simulations and researches.
