Dr. Guan Rong, is currently a professor of State Key Laboratory of Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Science, Wuhan University. He got his PhD in the field of geotechnical engineering in Wuhan University in 2005/07. During the period of 2006/09 to 2008/07, he continued his postdoctoral research in Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. Later, from 2012/11 to 2013/11, he was a visiting scholar in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, California, US. He has been selected for New Century Excellent Talents in 2012. He is not only a member of the International Association of Engineering Geology and Environment (IAEG) but also a member of International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM). Moreover, Dr. Rong has presided over three of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and been a key member of the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program). Besides, he has won twice the second prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award and many of provincial-level incentives.

The four major research fields for Dr. Rong include: (1) seepage computation analysis and control in jointed rock mass; (2) deformation and stability analysis of high rocky slope; (3) hydro-mechanical (HM) coupling mechanisms in rock and fractures; (4) evaluation of engineering geology and hydrogeology in rock mass.
